BIODEGRADABLE PACKAGING AT THE CHAI STAND

When Steve asked me to join him creating The Chai Stand my thoughts immediately turned to the packaging that he was looking at.

Originally we were looking at pouches for the tea varieties but they were plastic lined and were not recyclable.

I was pretty keen to move away from that kind of packaging and to try to find something a little more environmentally friendly.

We moved to looking at boxes which are printed and made locally in Brisbane (www.playtys.com.au) and we also tracked down some biodegradable cellophane bags. These are NatureFlex bags which are biodegradable, compostable and made in Australia (www.nomoreplasticpackaging.com.au). They can be composted at home and break down in approximately 15 weeks.

We are so pleased that we could get hold of a plastic alternative! We are also using locally sourced outer boxes (from Burleigh) and the tape we are using on the boxes for shipping is also biodegradable!
